‘I Gave Away 1,000 Flyers:’ Breakthrough Memoir Moment
American Unificationist Alexander Gabb has given away about a thousand flyers promoting Mother of Peace, a memoir by Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon which is currently a best seller in Christian Ecumenism on Amazon. As the Mother of Peace, Dr. Moon’s memoir traces her life’s journey, from growing up in war-torn North Korea to eventually building a global peace movement touching the lives of hundreds of thousands of people, including Gabb.
“I was struggling to find a way to share more intimately about True Parents with people right now,” said Gabb during a recent online meeting among FFWPU-USA leaders. “I quickly felt this memoir was the way; Mother of Peace paints a strong picture for people who are unfamiliar with True Parents and it’s very powerful.”
Gabb has long shared about the peace work of Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon and her late husband Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon, co-founders of Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU) and affectionately known as True Parents. But recently, he described his ‘breakthrough moment’ with the launch of Dr. Moon’s memoir. Gabb said her book has allowed him to connect more deeply with those in his Washington, D.C., community.
“This memoir was completely the key to reaching a substantial number of people with minimal exposure to True Parents,” said Gabb. “Giving people the memoir was like a liberation for them; they were so happy to receive it.”
It also enabled Gabb, who spent 17 years in Korea and lived many years in the Philippines and Israel, to continue his outreach in other parts of the world. “I did a lot of work in the Philippines and have many connections there, probably about 70 couples,” said Gabb. “This memoir has been instrumental in reconnecting with many of them.”
Now stateside, Gabb is the academic director of the Kirov Academy of Ballet where he has also introduced Mother of Peace to his colleagues. “It’s opening doors for more conversation about True Mother and all the work she is doing,” said Gabb. “That is what True Mother needs.”
“We want people to be excited about the memoir,” said FFWPU-USA President Rev. Demian Dunkley. “True Mother is even more excited to hear about the people who are receiving her book.”
