United Effort Brings Success in Korean Unity Event
The U.S. chapters of Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP) and Universal Peace Federation (UPF) jointly organized a Korean unity event entitled “Peace at Last – Stepping Forward to a New Korea” in collaboration with the Korean Evangelical Association (KEA) of New Jersey, Kodan, and Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU) USA.
On June 16, only a few days after the historic summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, the Korean Community Center in Tenafly, New Jersey hosted this occasion. It was the fifth annual event which was initiated by the recently appointed WFWP USA New Jersey Chair, Denneze Nelson, after True Mother’s peace rally in November 2017 to motivate positive support and connect people to this issue as well as promote Heavenly Parent and True Parents’ desire for Korean unification.
Close to 300 attendees turned up to the event, including the mayor of Tenafly. A special guest speaker, Dr. Yoong Soo Seol, an expert in North and South Korean affairs, flew in from Korea to shed light on the matter. Dr. Seol connected with many Korean participants while emphasizing the importance of the United States helping Korea, and the important role of women in ushering in an era of lasting peace.
President of WFWP USA Angelika Selle gave a presentation on ways we can build peace. She introduced the 1% Love Share Project and its internal background based on True Parents’ 1991 meeting with North Korean leader Kim Il Sung. Many of the guests were impressed with the dedicated work WFWP has done behind the scenes to bring Korean unification. Angelika concluded her presentation by acknowledging many of True Mother’s ongoing efforts for a peaceful unification including her bold move in calling for an international peace rally in November 2017, which gathered 80,000 people in three weeks and welcomed high-level officials, religious leaders and politicians.
Representing UPF and The Washington Times, Mr. Thomas P. McDevitt willingly agreed to co-sponsor the event and gave a speech offering his analysis of the Korean unification process while highlighting the important role played by The Washington Times to promote this development. He emphasized how the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP), a UPF project, as well as public officials need to get involved in the unification process to make peace happen on the Korean Peninsula.
Vibrant and uplifting performances from Apple Heaven Band, beat-boxer Sung Lee, and the ever dynamic Korean Youth Drummers followed the talks and presentations and were a pleasurable mix to the program. These are just a few of the wonderful team of Unificationists behind the scenes all coming together as a gift of love to our True Mother.
Upon closing, many of the guests offered their feedback on the event and requested copies of the content to study more deeply. The most important aspect was the unity of heart within a team of women who prepared for this national-level gathering with the support of the incredible men in the community.
