A Great Unificationist Author: Remembering Dr. Sang Hun Lee
Today marks the 24th anniversary since Dr. Sang Hun Lee, prominent author of Unification Thought (UT) and Victory Over Communism (VOC) texts, ascended in Seoul, South Korea, on March 22, 1997.
Born in 1913, Dr. Lee led a long and rich life until the age of 84. A former medical doctor, Dr. Lee met the Unification movement in 1956 and was among the 36 couples who received the Marriage Blessing in 1961. He published a philosophical application of the Divine Principle in 1973, titled Unification Thought, followed by Explaining Unification Thought (1981); Fundamentals of Unification Thought (1991); and Essentials of Unification Thought (1992). The Divine Principle is the core teachings of the Unification movement.
Dr. Lee also authored Communism: A Critique and Counterproposal (1973) and The End of Communism (1985). The late Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon, co-founder of Family federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU), described these works, along with the Divine Principle, as “pillars” of Unificationism.
Dr. Lee devoted himself to studying about the spirit world and, after his wife’s ascension in 1989, published excerpts of their correspondence as communicated through Young Soon Kim. Dr. Lee wanted to publish a complete doctrine of the spirit world but passed away before doing so. However, afterward Young Soon Kim published an influential volume of Dr. Lee’s messages from the spirit world titled Life in the Spirit World and on Earth (1998). Dr. Lee played a major role in subsequent spirit world messages including A Cloud of Witnesses: The Saints’ Testimonies to the True Parents (2002). True Parents is an affectionate term for Rev. Moon and FFWPU co-founder Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon.
Today, let’s remember and honor Dr. Lee’s great life of faith and immeasurable contribution to the Unification movement.
