Confidence of Faith

“We did more in one week than we usually do in three months,” said Rev. Kevin Thompson, western regional director of Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU) and pastor of the Bay Area Family Church. “Dr. Yong wants to be accountable for his own time and his activity, and he wants to inspire us that we can do much more.”

From August 26 to September 1, Dr. Chung Sik Yong, regional president of FFWPU North America, continued his national tour to revive the spirit of America. He visited different cities in Northern and Southern California, as well as Las Vegas, to connect with more Unificationists and community leaders.

“It was my first time in Los Angeles—a beautiful city—as I met with our leaders and young people from the Los Angeles Family Church,” said Rev. Yong.

“We also met [California] Mayor Eric Ching from the city of Walnut,” said Rev. Thompson. “He’s a man who is inspired by God and who has also gone through tragedy; and yet, it just makes his resolve stronger and now he is running for Congress under the slogan, ‘You First.’”

Mayor Ching joined Dr. Yong’s pastors’ summit in Los Angeles and was given the bestselling memoir of Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon and the autobiography of the late Rev. Dr. Sun. Myung Moon, FFWPU’s co-founders. Dr. Yong aims to connect with more government leaders on his tour, in addition to faith leaders and American Clergy Leadership (ACLC) pastors who can help revive the spirit of America’s people. He also plans to meet with as many couples and families as possible who are key to the nation’s future.

“Our leaders prayed together very powerfully at holy grounds established by Rev. Moon,” said Dr. Yong. “We went to the Twin Peaks holy ground, and even though it’s not easy to get there, it was a very beautiful experience.”

During his trip, Dr. Yong met with influential figures including well-known megachurch pastors Dr. Paolo Rosa and Bishop Noel Jones, as well as Bishop Garcia from the Latin-American Anglican Church out of Canada, and Dr. Amos Brown, a civil rights activist and pastor of San Francisco’s Third Baptist Church.

“Dr. Rosa received the Marriage Blessing with his wife in 2010,” said Dr. Yong. “He originally came from Brazil and many people have joined his church. He wakes up very early in the morning; his ministry is one of prayer.”

“And in San Francisco, Dr. Brown has [Vice President] Kamala Harris and many politicians who are members of his church,” said Rev. Thompson. “He’s been to many places with us, including the 2020 Summit in Korea, and said the only hope for Christianity in America at the moment is the Unification movement.”

Founded in 1954 by Rev. and Dr. Moon, FFWPU transcends barriers of race, nationality, language, and ideology to bring together tens of millions of people around the world. The global movement, which has joined numerous couples through the international Marriage Blessing ceremony, promotes values of family, world peace, and unity.

“I really appreciate Dr. Yong’s visit and all he is doing for the community,” said Rev. Ken Doo, national vice president of FFWPU and pastor of the Las Vegas Family Church.

“Dr. Yong’s tour inspires us with what is possible; he is the real deal,” said Rev. Thompson. “He encourages everybody to be confident in their faith and challenge themselves and others.”
