NOCP 2023: Invaluable Lessons On the Ocean

“I hope experiencing teamwork on the ocean and connecting to the natural world in Alaska can help me become a future leader who creates a difference in our society,” shared a young Unificationist from Hawaii. “With the experiences in NOCP, I know I can strengthen my personal relationship with God in [this] extraordinary environment.”

From July 3 to 25, young participants from across the U.S. are embarking on a 21-day journey in Kodiak, Alaska, for the 2023 National Ocean Challenge Program (NOCP). For some, it’s an opportunity for new experiences and self-discovery. For others, the program aligns with a heartfelt calling.

“[I] have been looking forward to NOCP ever since I was told that there was a program relating to my passion for marine zoology,” shared a young Unificationist from Connecticut. “I thought it would be nice to use this passion to deepen my relationship with God and True Parents, to continue finding the path towards my ideal self, and to find how I can personally contribute to ocean providence.”

Despite various reasons for registering, each participant seeks to challenge themselves and grow. True Parents, the founders of NOCP, practiced patience and perseverance while spending long hours on the water to catch fish. Similarly, NOCP participants will hone these skills and more, developing their faith, confidence, character, and leadership ability.

“What matters to God is my growth into becoming a man [of] integrity and true love,” shared a young Unificationist from California. “That’s why I chose to do Ocean Challenge. Plus, I love the ocean, and I’ve never been fishing before so I am very excited.”

“I want to deepen my experience of God’s love through His creation and learn more about God and True Parents’ heart for the ocean,” shared another Unificationist from Kodiak. “By understanding and grasping such hearts they have, I want to use that to keep giving love to others during my time in CARP, my college journey, and wherever God guides me.”

With such aspirations, NOCP participants sometimes face financial limitations. However, community members can support our young people, or the program itself, through sponsorship and donations of any amount. Ultimately, the ocean, as True Father noted, is a “wonderful teacher” that provides an invaluable education.
