Remembering Hyo Jin Moon
On this 14th anniversary, we remember Hyo Jin Moon, the eldest son of True Parents. Hyo Jin Moon ascended in Seoul, South Korea, on March 17, 2008 from a heart attack. Born Dec. 3, 1962, Hyo Jin is remembered for his kind nature, great love of music, and strong leadership.
For many years, Hyo Jin ran Manhattan Center Studios in New York City, which was favored by several leading musicians and orchestras. He was a passionate singer and lead guitarist who produced more than a dozen CDs and a catalog of thousands of compositions. True Parents held a world-level Seonghwa Ceremony and wrote a special calligraphy for him, translated as, “He will open and liberate the deepest heaven and turn it into a flower garden as the Lord who opens the gates of loyalty and filial piety.”
Hyo Jin also served as the first president of the World Collegiate Association for the Research of Principles (World CARP) from 1984 to 1994. One of the defining moments of his presidency was the 4th World CARP Convention in Berlin in 1987. Hyo Jin led a thousand students on a memorable march to the Berlin Wall, where he delivered an inspiring speech calling on Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev to tear down the wall. After 28 years, the Berlin Wall finally came down in Nov. 1989.
“As brothers and sisters, the root that brings us together as a family is God,” said Hyo Jin’s spouse, Yeon Ah Choi Moon, during a 2015 musical tribute. “Hyo Jin dedicated his entire life in response to True Parents’ views ... I sincerely hope you can all remember Hyo Jin Nim's noble life and become determined to lead lives of filial piety.”
