Remembering Lady Dr. Kim

It’s been 17 years since our beloved elder member Lady Dr. Kim Shin Ook ascended to the spirit world on November 16, 2004. She was 90 years old. Born in Korea in 1914, and married in 1937, Lady Dr. Kim joined the Unification movement in July 1956. She devoted her life to serving God and True Parents, even aiding in the birth of four True Children: Ye Jin, Hyo Jin, Hae Jin and In Jin Moon.

Lady Dr. Kim worked as a missionary, arriving in America in 1971 and then Africa in 1976. She also played an important role in the movement regarding ancestor liberation and the spirit world. Her first name, Shin Ook, means “Faith Sunrise” as she is remembered for her kind, loving and selfless nature.

“She was a great lady,” recalled the late Cherng Guh, an early Unificationist from Taiwan. “Her lifestyle was an excellent example of ‘living for the sake of others.’ She was always serving members and guests.”

“I was determined I was going to befriend her,” said another Unificationist, Daniele Cohen, who first met Lady Dr. Kim in Barrytown, New York. “She was like a magnet to me... What a heart she had.”

Let us remember Lady Dr. Kim’s legacy of serving others and her great contribution to God’s providence.
