The Power of Love
“No power under the sun can infiltrate the power of love. Heung Jin Nim's death is not an ordinary one; he transformed himself into the victory of love,” said True Father.
The beloved son of True Parents, we remember Heung Jin Moon who ascended to the spirit world 38 years ago on January 2, 1984. His zest for life and warm-hearted nature — exhibited in all his relationships, especially his filial heart toward family and friends — will never be forgotten.
“We prayed for the physical salvation of Heung Jin Nim's life here on earth, but God had a plan,” said True Father, as he proclaimed January 2 the Day of Victory of Love in honor of him.
A car accident in New York on Dec. 22, 1983 left Heung Jin in a coma for more than a week as he fought to pull through. The ultimate sacrifice, Heung Jin swerved his car to take the impact of an oncoming truck that veered into his lane, saving his two friends, Jin Bok Lee and Jin Gil Lee. At the time, True Parents were in South Korea holding the last of the International Federation for Victory Over Communism (IFVOC) rallies.
“My power was my absolute faith in God,” said True Father. “Therefore there was no room for Satan to attack me personally, but he could attack Heung Jin Nim, who occupied the position of the living Jesus in the Unification Church... Heung Jin Nim was in a Catholic hospital so even the priests came to pray for him and offered comforting words to [us].”
The Day of Victory of Love, he said, allows all tragic events from evil forces to be conquered by love and enter a higher realm.
“Even though Jesus entered the spirit world after the crucifixion, there was no concept of True Parents, True Children or Blessed Couples. Even though Jesus had the desire to return and participate on earth, there was no foundation for his return. Heung Jin Nim’s spirit is totally free to come back here any time he wants to. This foundation is for the entire world.”
The late Dr. Bo Hi Pak recalled Heung Jin’s deep love for all people and his selfless character during his address at Heung Jin’s World Seunghwa Ceremony in Seoul on Jan. 8, 1984.
“He was very friendly and loved every visitor at East Garden,” Dr. Pak said. “He shared all of his best things with his friends. He did not discriminate between people but loved everyone who was loyal to Father. On top of that, he endeavored to share his possessions with those who worked hard for God’s Will.”
“Heung Jin Nim tried his utmost to survive until the very last moment,” said Dr. Pak. “Heung Jin Nim practiced filial piety until the very moment of his passing... This was the final act of a true filial son.”
