Connecticut Family Church is seeking a Pastor

The Connecticut Family Church is seeking a Pastor who feels called by God to serve and guide our church community. The candidate should be sincere, prayerful, competent, and able to harmonize with local and national leadership. The pastor is expected to carry out their duties centered on True Parent’s vision and to serve the church community by guiding and developing the local church for at least three years.

About the Family Church of Connecticut (FCCT):

The FCCT (https://familychurchofct.org/) is a growing community of about 100 active members of all ages and national backgrounds. Because of the historic relationship of our church to the University of Bridgeport, many of the members are involved in education and there is an active youth and children’s ministry. There are 2 schools affiliated with our church in Bridgeport. Bridgeport International Academy (BIA) is a growing and well-regarded high school that serves about 100 local and international boarding students and employs many of our members as staff. Bridgeport Hope School (BHS) is a smaller values-based school that serves children from K-8 grade. Our church meets for worship in the main assembly hall of BIA. We also own a small apartment nearby that is used as our Cheon Shim Won and is rented to generate additional income for the church. There are currently active ACLC, UPF, Youth and CARP ministries affiliated with the church.

Role Objective:

The Pastor provides the vision for the community and seeks to move it in a direction of growth and enrichment by aligning it to the vision and mission of the subregion and the national leadership. The pastor is focused primarily on the spiritual well-being of the community and its individuals and families. He/She also oversees and is engaged in the financial sustainability and prosperity of the local church.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Spiritual Leader:

    • Provides spiritual leadership and guidance for the Church through teaching based on the Divine Principle and words of True Parents

    • Leads Spiritual conditions, prayer, and Hoon Dok Hae study sessions

    • Provides care for individuals and families through visitation and connecting members to relevant resources for support

    • Is responsible to oversee church ceremonies including Seonghwa, Wonjeon and memorial services, Il Shim education, engagement and marriage blessing-related activities, and other membership ceremonies and events

    • Management and maintenance of the Cheon Shim Won

    • Oversees and speaks at ministry-led programming as requested, including:

      • Youth programs

      • CARP

      • ACLC

      • Heavenly Tribal Messiah

      • Blessed Family Ministry

      • Others as needed

  • Director of Sunday Worship:

    • Responsible for organizing Sunday Worship Service, including the coordination of Sunday Worship Team and volunteers

    • Responsible to deliver the Sunday Sermon a minimum of two times per month

    • Seeks to create the spiritual and physical environment to foster renewal and revival through a personal connection to God’s love for all members

  • Communications and Reporting:

    • Reports to the Local Church Community and Church Council about initiatives on the district, subregional, and national level

    • Communicates with the Regional and National Leadership on behalf of the Family Church of CT

    • Communicates regularly with members and local leadership via regular meetings (in-person and virtual), email, and other means

    • Participates in the monthly Local Church Council meetings and provides updates on activities and budgets

  • Outreach & Growth:

    • Promotes awareness and understanding of True Family Values and the Divine Principle as the guiding teaching for members’ lives and activities

    • Promotes active working relationships for interfaith cooperation through involvement with faith-based and community organizations

    • Oversees the development, with the participation of church leaders and members, of energetic evangelizing programs to increase local church membership and educate new members

  • Financial Supervision:

    • Works with the bookkeeper to create the annual budget

    • Creates a yearly Pastor’s Report for the community, including a report on the approved budget

    • Manages budget spending and reporting to the council on a monthly basis

    • Encourage increased tithing and donations to support church growth

    • Mediates budget and financial issues that may arise among ministries

    • Works with the Finance Committee on special projects to support fiscal growth and the financial health of the church

    • Oversight and maintenance of church-owned property and rental agreements

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Prior experience in Ministry leadership, either paid or volunteer

  • Prior experience in giving sermons and speaking publicly

  • A firm belief in supporting True Parents and the current providence

  • Participated in the Holy Marriage Blessing ceremony

  • Fluency in the English language

  • Legally eligible to work in the U.S.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • High level of initiative and ownership

  • Willing to relocate to Bridgeport, CT or surrounding area

  • College graduate with Seminary degree preferred

  • Computer, communication, presentation, and management skills preferred but not required

Compensation and Start Date:

  • Salary: $40,000 – $50,000.

    • Salary and benefits offered will vary based on qualifications and previous experience.

  • Expected Start Date: To be determined upon job offer acceptance
