Painting, Flooring, and Building Bonds
Unificationists in Ohio are coming together to revamp the community’s church this spring — and you can help!
“Our goal is to bring fun, relaxation, and God's love to young families through great Sunday school classes and a beautiful kid-friendly environment,” says Joshua Angelucci, a young Unificationist father of four. “We’re raising money to revamp our Sunday school at the Ohio Family Church.”
Angelucci recently set up a GoFundMe page to support the remodeling efforts at the Columbus church, which serves more than 50 Unificationist families. “We have so many kids and young families in our community and we really want to support them well,” says Angelucci.
The community aims to raise $6,000 for repairs and renovations, and in just a few days, $800 has already been donated.
“A few young families have been working on this project for months now — planning, designing, cleaning, moving, reorganizing, and decorating,” says Angelucci. Community leaders also brought in Alabama pastor and former FFWPU Children’s Ministry National Director Leena Vincenz-Gavin to lead the project.
“The funds will go toward painting, buying new toys, furniture, and flooring,” says Angelucci. “We plan to turn our lounge into a play cafe and implement the new designs we have for all the rooms.”
Community leaders say the remodeling project is more than just transforming the church space — it’s an opportunity for team-building and strengthening bonds as they all focus on a bigger goal.
“This is an incredible project to renovate and improve our Sunday school at our local church,” says Angelucci, “but we also hope we can be an inspiration for other communities that want to do something similar.”
It’s already becoming a trend, with Unificationists from coast to coast helping to enhance their community spaces as needed. In November, Vincenz-Gavin secured a new church property for the Mobile, Ala., community which underwent renovations with local support. Community leaders in Denver remodeled their local CARP house last fall as well.
But ultimately, Ohio leaders say this kind of intergenerational activity is a beautiful way to enable everyone to contribute and invest in their own community — as well as other communities — however they can, whether it’s by donating their time, money, or handy skills while putting the Unificationist faith into practice.
